Heathwood Hall was the top local story at the SCISA Region 1-3A championship meet last week.
The Highlanders boys finished in second place behind champion St. Joseph’s. West Summers (4th), Preston Frankstone (6th) and Stephen Ridley (10th) earned all-region honors while pacing the Highlanders’ best region finish in at least 8 years. In the process, Summers established a new school record of 17:41, breaking the existing mark by three seconds.
Ben Lippen’s Hunter Frady (3rd) and Hammond’s Jordan Hall (7th) were the other area runners to rate all-region status.
Hammond finished second to St. Joseph’s in the girls team standings.
The champion Knights, who recently opened some eyes by winning the Greenville County championship against some of the top public schools in the state, had all five scoring runners make the all-region cut.
Local runners Brooke Grice (5th) and Sydney Ellen (10th) of Heathwood Hall (5th), Cardinal Newman’s Caroline Gasser (6th) and Hammond’s Catherine Herring and (7th) and Charlotte Bristow (9th) rounded out the all-region team.
