The Gilbert boys and Mid-Carolina girls teams emerged as the champions as last week’s Region 3-2A cross country championship meet.
Gilbert closed with a 36-46 advantage over Batesburg-Leesville to continue its recent run of region titles. Indians Brian Provost and Trevor Black were the top individuals. Provost secured the region title with a run of 17:40, three seconds ahead of Black.
James Coleman and Brandon James led the Batesburg-Leesville title bid, finishing in third- and fourth-place, respectively.
Mid-Carolina, led by Rebecca Odom and Maria Pascual, was a 33-47 winner over Gilbert in the team standings. Odom was the individual champion with a time of 21:33, while Pascual finished just one second behind Odom to claim runner-up honors.
Gilbert’s top runner was Brooke Craft, who was third in 21:51.
