Ridge View’s boys cross country team claimed its third straight title and the Spring Valley girls turned in a perfect performance at the Region 4-4A championship meet last week at Clemson Research Park.
The Blazers, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, was an easy 22-52 winner over runner-up Spring Valley.
David Jennings, Joe Keitt and Raeven Lantz were the top three runners at the finish line. Jennings earn the individual title with a run of 16:02.27, Keitt was second in 16:12.66 and Lantz third in 16:47.75. Jennings and Keitt had the meet's national elite times.
Jay Lynch (7th) and Step Rembert (9th) joined their RV teammates on the all-region team.
Spring Valley’s William Ivey (5th) and Connor McCormick (8th) and Blythewood’s Andrew Gordon (10th) were the other Midlands runners to make the all-region cut.
Spring Valley occupied the top five spots at the finish line, resulting in the Vikings perfect 15-point showing. Emily Bakaj’s winning time of 20:27.81 set the tone. Alanna Cates (2nd), Christine Nixon (3rd), Annie Niehaus (4th) and Alex Berry (5th) fell in behind the senior leader. Ironically, Sarah Beasley earned a spot on the all-region team with a seventh-place finish, but did not contribute to the team score.
Ridge View finished a distant second with 72 points.
Ridge View’s Alesha Love (6th) and Blythewood’s Claire Stephens were the other Midlands runners to earn spots on the all-region team.
