Ridge View's Green signs with Tennessee State

Another Midlands senior plans to continue his basketball career at Tennessee State.

Ridge View forward Michael Green committed to the program on Friday, joining Lower Richland's M.J. Rhett, who did the same earlier this month.

Ridge View coach John Combs said the 6-foot-8 Green, who had three triple-doubles last season, felt comfortable with Tennessee State's situation. Coach John Cooper, a former USC assistant, is in his first year at the school. One of his assistants is Sheldon Everett, a former USC player from Lexington.

Cooper began recruiting Green last year as an assistant at Auburn. After he went to Tennessee State, and the Tigers cooled on Green, Cooper revisited Green, Combs said.

"Mike went for an official visit and really enjoyed it there," Combs said.

The past two summers, Green and Rhett were teammates on the J-70 AAU team, which is sponsored by Columbia native Jermaine O'Neal of the Miami Heat.
