SCISA roundup: Hammond gets first-round win

Hammond 35, Pinewood Prep 13

At Edens Stadium, B.J. Bennett rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Skyhawks (10-1) to a SCISA Class 3A first-round playoff win.

Hunter George added an 87-yard punt return for a first-quarter touchdown to give Hammond a 21-0 lead.

The Skyhawks play Wilson Hall in the semifinals Friday at home.

At Estill, the Patriots (7-5) notched their sixth consecutive win led by Austin Rowell, who had 29 carries for 228 yards and four touchdowns.

Rowell's big game brought his season total to 2,656 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Freshman quarterback Grant Youmans had 10 rushes for 47 yards, adding three tackles and an interception on defense.

Patrick Henry will play Wardlaw Academy next week. Andrew Jackson ended its season at 4-7.
