Hammond notes: For the first time since 2005, Hammond (10-1) finds itself on the road in the SCISA state playoffs prior to the championship game ... The Skyhawks were doomed to a semifinal road trip by a 10-7 loss to undefeated Heathwood Hall in the Region 1-3A showdown in the penultimate game of the regular season … The three-time defending champions scored their 10th straight playoff win last week at home, breezing by Pinewood Prep 35-13. Hammond put the game on ice early – jumping out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead courtesy of a short scoring run by B.J. Bennett on the game’s first possession, a 35-yard scoring pass from Dave Nidiffer to Aaron Walters and an 85-yard punt return for a score by Hunter George … Bennett was the offensive headliner, finishing with 221 yards rushing and three TDs on 25 carries. Beach Coronttzes and Jordan Kay were the hit leaders with eight and seven tackles, respectively. George and Logan Smith had interceptions. The Skyhawks limited the Panthers is just 86 yards rushing, 232 overall.
Wilson Hall notes: The Barons (9-3) are on a roll, winning six in row after losing three in a row early in the season – a skid that started with a 35-7 home loss to Hammond … Last week, Wilson all escaped with a 35-28 first-round playoff win against scrappy Augusta Christian … Quarterback Josh Glenn, the offensive star of team by land and air, was 18-for-24 passing for 234 yards and one touchdown, and added two scoring runs. The last was a 1-yarder with 3:01 left in the game that proved to be the clinching tally … Wesley Talley, son of Barons coach Eddie Talley, had six catches for 60 yards and was 2-for-2 passing for 75 yards and two TDs … In all, the Barons burned the Lions for 309 passing yards. Series history: Hammond is 5-1 vs. Wilson Hall since the regular-season series resumed in 2006. Included are two Hammond playoff wins, including a 41-7 romp in last season;s championship game in Orangeburg. Hammond was an easy 35-7 winner in Sumter in Week 3.
