Ridge View closed the 2009 football season with a 3-8 record, but things could have been better. The Blazers, after all, lost three games by a combined total of six points.
Graduation will come at a cost of four starters on offense, seven on defense.
“How we do next year will be defined by off-season program and how man offensive and defensive linemen develop,” said coach Raymond Jennings.
Despite the losing record, there were highlights this fall.
Senior receiver Naquan Fleming finished the season with 66 catches for 1,255 yards and six touchdowns and set three school records along the way to earning an all-region berth. Fleming’s receiving yards is a new single-season school mark, and he also established two single-game records – receiving yards (243 vs. Dutch Fork) and TD catches (3 vs. RNE).
Junior defensive end Antoine Parker had a school-record four sacks vs. Dutch Fork. For the season, Parker, a two-year starter, was credited with 107 tackles, 12 TFL and 10.5 sacks.
Parker and senior linebacker Marcus Lyerly, a three-year starter, were the other RV players on the Region 4-4A all-star team. Lylerly finished with 152 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 caused fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 pass deflections.
