Mid-Carolina improved to 2-1 with a 58-51 boys basketball win at home over former region rival Emerald on Tuesday.

The Rebels struggled offensively – shooting just 35% from the field and 55% at the free-throw line – but made up for it in the defensive end and on the glass. M-C had 14 steals in the game, and 17 of its 25 rebounds came off the offensive boards.

Calvin Herbert had a double-double to lead the way. Herbert tallied 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and also was credited with four steals and two blocked shots. Hubert Wicker, the prime ball handler with point guard Mac Lake sitting out with an injury, scored 11 points and dished out six assists with just two turnovers. C.J. Edwards chipped in 13 points.
