Asa Gossett’s pin at 215 pounds clinched White Knoll’s 36-35 upset win against Class 4A sixth-ranked Fort Mill on Tuesday.
Gossett’s fall in 1:40 capped a late rally by the 11th-ranked Timberwolves that featured pins by Patrick Spears at 160 and Phillip Austin at 171.
Both teams had seven wins in the dual match, which meant that White Knoll’s 5-4 edge in pins was the ultimate difference. The other WK six-pointers came courtesy of Austin lee at 119 and Zach Dicus at 145. Kevin Eptinig (125) and Jamal Lackey (135) were the other Timberwolves winners. Lackey’s 9-7 overtime victory was another key component in the WK triumph.
