Late arriving Knight blow by Jackets

Lexington Catholic, which failed to arrive in Columbia in time for it’s first-round Chick-fil-A game on Saturday because of bad weather, jumped on Irmo in the first half and cruised to a 65-50 win in its tournament debut on Monday.

LC, which is the winningest program in Kentucky since 1990, raced to a 35-19 lead by halftime on 14-for-26 shooting from the field and was on cruise control the rest of the way. Tanner Peurach and Scott Schuette paced the Knights, who improved to 5-3. Peurach, a 6-8 forward, scored 18 points (8-for-10 shooting from the field) and grabbed 10 rebounds. Peurach scored 14 points.

Josh Clinkscales led Irmo with 15 points and four assists. The Yellow Jackets, now 0-2 in Chick-fil-A play, fell 5-3 with the loss. Irmo closes out the tournament on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m.
