Dreher rallied late to beat Fairfield Central and secure a Bracket II third place finish at the Chick-fil-A Classic Tuesday at Richland Northeast.
The Blue Devils (12-2) trailed 29-23 at halftime, and eventually pulled even at 41-41 with 7:20 remaining on a jumper by James Whitehead. The tally launched a decisive 22-12 burst that gave Dreher a 63-51 lead with 22 seconds remaining. Whitehead hit one free throw at 7:19 to put the Blue Devils ahead for good. The next nine Dreher points came on three 3-pointers by Chris Brown.
Brown finished with a game high 25, and was deadly from 3-point range (5-for-7). Guard Quayshun Hawkins had his usual solid game – 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals. Tyler Harris did good work off the bench with six points on 3-for-3 marksmanship from the field and five boards.
Mikel Trapp led the Griffins (7-4) with 18 points. Trapp matched Brown’s 5-for-7 shooting show from beyond the arc. Marquis Robinson finished with a double double – 13 points, 12 rebounds.
