Westlake upsets Rice in Classic I finale

Clemson-bound senior Marcus Thornton scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, leading Westlake (Ga.) to a 53-47 upset of Rice (N.Y) in the Chick-fil-A Classic I bracket championship.

Rice (4-1), which committed 15 turnovers and shot 29.8 percent, entered the game rated No. 17 in the USA Today Super 25 poll.

Thornton, a 6-8 forward, was named the bracket's most outstanding player.

Tony Jacobs added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Lions. Guards Jeff Newberry and Ronnie Harris each scored 11 points.

Kevin Perez was the lone Rice player in double figures with 12 points. All-tournament forward Kadeem Jack had 14 rebounds and eight points.
