School is out this week, but Irmo learned plenty on Tuesday as it beat Wilson Hall 72-32 to advance to the finals of the Midas Highlander Holiday Classic.
"We finally learned to play as a team today," Yellow Jackets coach Monica Williams said, "and that when we play as a team, the points just come."
Williams said the victory was a much-needed turnaround from an ugly victory in the first round of the tournament at Heathwood Hall. On Tuesday, the Yellow Jackets (6-4) led by 11 points in the first quarter and by 31 points at halftime.
"When we get in our offensive sets, good things happen for us, and they see that now," Williams said.

Wilson Hall, No. 7 in the SCISA coaches' poll, could not control Irmo's Sarah Green inside. The center put up a game-high 19 points and five blocks, and was too much for the Barons' Victoria Thomas to contain.
"That is probably the toughest competition (Thomas) is going to see in the paint this year, so it was a good experience for her," Barons coach Glenn Rector said.
Rector saw the game as a learning opportunity for his team, which is inexperienced at this point of the season.
"We played very nervous and made some mistakes early because of that. Once we got behind, we just tried to get everybody some playing time so they could all get some experience," Rector said.
Wilson Hall got all it could handle. The Barons were 5-of-15 from the field in the first half, scoring one field goal in the second quarter, and were 6-of-14 from the free throw line.
With Green cutting off the post and the Barons' outside shots not falling, the Yellow Jackets got their transition game going. Turnovers turned into points for Irmo as Brooke McCants and Brianna Stanton ran the floor and scored 16 points apiece.
Williams is hoping her team will remember these lessons when regular season play resumes next week.
"This is the best game we've had all season," Williams said. "We've been scoring about 40 points and that is not going to be good enough when we get in region season. Seventy points would do it. I want to see more games like this."
