Surging Flora girls meet B-C in final tune-up

A.C. Flora’s girls basketball team, which stands at 10-1 and is riding an eight-game winning streak, returns to action Tuesday at home at Brookland-Cayce in the final tune-up for the start of the Region 4-3A campaign.

The Falcons open conference play Friday at Lower Richland against the defending region and Class 3A state champion Diamond Hornets. ACF closed out the December portion of the 2009-10 season with a 48-41 win over LR at the Orangeburg Sweet 16 tournament. Flora nipped Sumter 44-43 in double overtime in the tournament opener.

Veteran Kim Roach is off to a good start, averaging 14.9 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. The 5-foot-9 senior is shooting 50% from the field and 71% at the free-throw line.

Kyeshia Dawkins (9.1 ppg), Alexis Jacobs (6.4 ppg), Simoy Evans (5.4 ppg) and Lauren Jones (4.4) have provided Roach with solid backing so far.
