After scoring just 12 points in the first half, the North Augusta girls basketball team erupted after the break to hand Irmo its first Region 5-4A loss of the season on Tuesday.
The visiting Yellow Jackets out-scored the host Yellow Jackets 41-28 in the second half to flee town with a 53-42 win. Both teams now stand at 2-1 in region matters, one half game behind Dutch Fork, which improved to 2-0 courtesy of a 69-24 triumph at White Knoll on Tuesday. Orangeburg-Wilkinson, meanwhile, improved to 1-1 in conference play thanks to a 38-36 win at Lexington.
North Augusta’s ultimate advantage vs. Irmo was at the free-throw line. Both teams tallied 18 field goals, but NA cashed in 12 of 18 free throws while Irmo was just 3-for-4 at the line.
Kayla West fired in a game high 20 points for North Augusta. Sarah Green and Brianna Stanton scored 14 apiece for Irmo, which fell to 8-5 overall.
