Dreher smoked Airport 99-70 on Friday night to bag its second straight Region 5-3A boys basketball championship. It was the 21st straight region win for the Blue Devils dating back to February 2008.
Dreher wasted little time establishing control against the last-place Eagles, racing to a 34-21 lead by the end of the first quarter. Airport cut the deficit 43-36 by halftime, but the Blue Devils (21-3, 9-0) enjoyed a 56-34 advantage over the final 16 minutes to win going away.
Chris Brown and Quayshun Hawkins did major the major damage, combining for 54 points. Brown deposited 29 points (going 5-for-10 from 3-point range), grabbed seven rebounds, dished out six assists and picked up two steals. Hawkins had a double-double – scoring 25 points of 10-for-13 shooting from the field and finished with 11 assists.
Dominic Boyd (14 points), Derrick Halback (3 points, 8 assists) and James Whitehead (11 points) also joined in the fun.
Dreher closes out the regular season Tuesday at homer against Swansea.
