C.A. Johnson emerged from Friday’s round of play in Region 4-1A boys basketball with a conference championship.
The Green Hornets’ 51-41 win at Williston-Elko, coupled with Blackville-Hilda’s 61-49 loss to Fox Creek, left CAJ (12-9, 11-1) with a three-game lead in the region standings over Williston-Elko, Blackville-Hilda and Hunter-Kinard-Tyler with two games to go in the regular season.
C.A. Johnson established command by limiting the host Blue Devils to just nine first-half points, and withstood every W-E challenge over the final 16 minutes of play.
Aaron Hagins paced the balanced CAJ scoring effort with 19 points. Hagins had plenty of support from Davon Dash (14), Terrel Magazine (10) and Sterling Rose (8).
The Hornets will continue to have a say in the final region playoff equation next week with home games against Blackville-Hilda and Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.
