Keenan prevailed over archrival Eau Claire in Thursday’s winner-take-all Region 4-2A boys basketball showdown, downing the visiting Shamrocks 74-68 to secure the outright conference champion and the region’s No. 1 seed for the upcoming state playoffs.
Bradley Smith led the balanced Raiders scoring parade with 18 points, and had nice support from Dennis Rowe (12), Eric Washington (12) and Kenny Reed (10).
Keenan, which finished with regular season with a 16-8 overall record and a 9-1 region grade, secured its third straight region championship and its fifth in six tries since dropping down to the Class 2A level in the 2004-05 season.
Eau Claire, which handed Keenan its lone region setback (56-51 on Jan. 22), enters the state playoffs next week with a 13-9 pverall record and a final 8-2 region mark. The Shamrocks enter the state playoffs next week as a No. 2 region seed and will host a first-round game.
Marquis Lykes paced EC vs. Keenan with 13 points, and David Kearse chipped in with 10.
