Player of the year: Sarah Boyle
School: Spring Valley
What she did: Won silver in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.18 seconds and placed fourth in the 100 butterfly (59.59).
What is your first memory of a swimming pool:? My dad took me into the pool when I couldn't even walk. Ever since I could remember, we were swimming because we had a pool in our backyard. My dad taught us to swim because he was nervous about that (children falling in). He used to tie noodles around our waist, and we'd float around like that.
Why did you decide to swim competitively? My parents kind of got me into that. Some of my parents' friends had kids my age that swam, so they took me out there.
What was your most memorable competition? The YMCA Nationals. Last year, I did well the first day but then I didn't do great because I got the flu. I competed anyway, but I couldn't do my best. I look forward to going back this year, and hopefully I won't be sick and I'll do well every day.
What motivates you? Sometimes it is hard getting the motivation to go to practice, but being able to go to some of the big meets and swim against some of the fastest kids in the nation, it's all worth it when you think about it.
How much time do you spend swimming? It's probably about 12-14 hours a week.
What do you do with your free time? Just hanging out with my friends. Usually I'm still with my swim team because I have a lot of my close friends on the team.
Where do you see yourself in 2020? I have no idea. I would like to swim in college, and I'm not sure which college I want to go to yet. I want to do something with international business. That's about as much as I know right now.
