Class 2A All-Area Football: Defense

Player of the year: James Barnes

School: Keenan

Class: Senior

Position: Defensive lineman

Who taught you to play football? My middle school coach, Coach Mango, really taught me how to play the game. I didn't start playing until seventh grade because I was always too big to play for Pop Warner. When I was in seventh grade, I actually started and I was kind of nervous, but once I got in the groove of it and got my feet wet, it worked out pretty well.

What position did you start out playing? Lineman. Because of my size I pretty much knew I was always going to be a lineman.

If you were a bit smaller, what position would you want to play? I always tried to play linebacker because I knew the defense. I still kid my coach that he should let me play linebacker.

What player did you idolize growing up? It was really and truly Richard Seymour because I just loved the way he moved, I tried to copy him.

Aside from football, what sports do you enjoy? I play basketball and track. I also like to play golf. It's just something I play around with with my grandfather.

When you're not practicing or working out, what are you most likely to be doing? Mostly relax, just hanging with friends and having a good time.

What's the last movie you saw? The Book of Eli. I liked that movie

What would be your theme song? "We Ready" by Lil John and Trick Daddy. I listen to that every day. It gets me pretty amped up.

How many hours do you get to sleep on an average night? Eight hours, but it's still not enough
