Lexington’s girls tennis team is looking for even better things in 2010 after going 13-7 last season and advancing to the third round of the Class 4A state playoffs before being eliminated by eventual champion Wando.
The big news is six starters are returning, including sophomore Morgan Patterson who has moved back to Lexington. The rest of the veteran cast features senior Erin Green, who went 9-8 last season, senior Rachel Lovaas (9-5), junior Lauren Howard (9-4), senior Katie Lucas (6-5) and sophomore Kelly Gajewski (9-3).
Seventh-graders Katie Thompson and Amy Lance are youngsters who should be in the mix for varsity playing time this year.
“Having Morgan back is huge for this team which already a lot of depth,” said coach Eric Jackson, who sports a career 119-28 record as the head coach of the Lexington girls and boys teams.

“Assuming she ends up at No. 1 singles, it would make our entire lineup that much stronger. Katie Thompson is a tournament-tested youngster who will add another great player to the lineup. Erin, Rachel, and Lauren have a lot of experience and will do well in their singles slots. Katie and Kelly have played a lot of doubles together, so they should perform well also. I'm not if we have enough to get past Wando, but we're sure going to work hard to try and make that happen.”
The projected starting singles lineup has Patterson at No. 1, followed by Green, Lovaas, Thompson and Howard.
