The history of the Ridge View boys cross country program is an interesting one.
The Blazers have been one of top-shelf teams in the state since debuting in 1995, except in one significant area. Ridge View has been a Top 10 program 13 times in 14 tries, failing to make the cut only in 2006. The Blazers have been in the top five eight times, including runner-up finishes in 2009, 2004 and 2001.
Ridge View, however, is still in search of No. 1.
As on the team side, Ridge View has yet to celebrate its an individual state championship.
Joe Keitt finished second behind Fort Mill star Mark Blackmon – a three-time state champion. Keitt enters the 2010 season as the top returning Class 4A runner. Fort Mill drops down to 3A this season, but Blackmon won’t be around for a chance to male four-time state champion in history. He has transferred to a private school on North Carolina.
Keitt matched the pervious best individual performance in program annals established by Cornelius Harvin, who was the 4A runner-up in 2005.
David Jennings, one of five returning senior starters in 2010, is also chasing a little history this fall.
Jennings, the brother of three-time all-state Blazer runner Lisa Jennings (2001-2004), is also chasing a little history this fall. Jennings has a chance to become the first Ridge View runner, male or female, to earn all-state honors four times. If successful, he would become the first Midlands 4A runner to pull it off since Scott Wietecha of Irmo did it between 1996 and 1999.
