Chapin opened the 2010 cross country season with solid performances at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg on Sept. 4.
The Eagles boys turned in a fourth place finish in the top flight International Division, while the young Eagles girls team finished in ninth place.
Junior Heath Lorick led the way for the Chapin boys, finishing seventh with a time of 16 minutes, 45 seconds. Seniors Thomas Fitzpatrick (27th, 17:27), Carson Barnes (30th, 17:30), Alex Watson (58th, 18:06) and Hunter McGeehee (72nd, 18:22) were the Eagles other scoring runners.
Chapin finished with 191 team points and was second only to Wade Hampton (Greenville) among South Carolina finishers in the International group.

Freshman Kathleen Mirgon paced the Eagles girls team, which closed with a team score of 254 points – third highest among Class 3A SC entries in the top division. Mirgon finished 24th in 20:58, followed by sophomore Lauren Steedly (31st, 21:12), junior Lannon McCoy (32nd, 21:17), Samantha Koenig (82nd, 22:37) and Sarah Baldwin (92nd, 23:00).
