Quality depth was the ticket for Chapin’s varsity swim team on Sunday at the Blue Devil Invitational. The Eagles had no individual winners, but enough scoring punch to finish in third place in the combined boys-girls standings with 223 points.
Chapin’s girls carried a bit more of the load, placing second behind Dorman, while the boys finished in fourth place.
Hannah Finkernagle and Logan Schumpert were the girls headliners, scoring in two individual events and joining forces on two bronze medal relay teams. Finkernagle and Schumpert teamed up with Mae Sparrow and Emily Jeanot on the third-place 400 free relay squad and with Callie Wingo and Ally Baker on the third-place 200 medley relay quartet.
Individually, Finkernagle earned a silver medal with a second-place performance in the 100 free and placed fifth in the 200 free. Schumpert just missed a medal in the 100 butterfly (4th) and was seventh in the 200 free.
