The 2010 Blythewood softball team finished No. 2 nationally on the Girls Got Game/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic team list.
The Blazers’ 12 letter winners compiled a 4.405 GPA on a weighted scale during the 2009-10 school year, finishing second only to Splendora (Tex.) High School.
This is the the fifth time in five years that the Bengals have finished in the Top 25, the third year in a row in the Top 10. All 12 letter winners finished the school year with at least a 3.5 GPA, and were honored individually as All-America Scholar Athletes.
"We are extremely proud of our young ladies on their accomplishment,” said Blythewood coach Bucky Ware.

“This honor illustrates the importance they place on academics and shows how well-rounded our student-athletes are. We stress academics constantly and try to teach them to be successful in everything they do, but it's really up to them individually to follow through. It's really nice to see them rewarded for their hard work."
Blythewood’s 2009-10 All-America Scholar Athletes include graduates Tififany Harris (now at St. Andrews Presbyterian University), Paige Hartfield (Winthrop University), Paige Owczarczak (University of South Carolina), Kelly Owens (Clemson University), and Hillary Stewart (University of South Carolina-Aiken), as well as current sophomores Ellen Cordova, Blair Murphy, and Bailey Newman, current freshmen Jessica Ergle, Lori Owens, and Cierra Robinson, and current 8th-grader Katie Chappell.
