Spring Valley dominated the story at the Region 4-4A swimming championship meet on Saturday at Columbia County Club. The Vikings claimed team honors by a 188-137 margin over runner-up Dutch Fork and came away with eight of the 12 individual and relay gold medals up for grabs.
Team leaders Jonathan Boland, Ben Spinek and Mason Thornley all emerge with four gold medals.
Boland, a junior, prevailed in the distance freestyle events – the 200 and 400. Spinek, a sophomore, finished first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Thornley, a junior, swept the sprint freestyle events – the 50 and 100.
The three also teamed up with freshman Isaac Havens on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.

Eighth grader Thomas Agostini also made an impression with two medal runs. He was second in the 400 free and third in the 200 free.
Connor Graham led the way for Dutch Fork. He had a win in the 100 free and joined with Anthony Jenkins, Luke Ely and Daniel Anderson to produce a gold-medal run in the 200 free relay.
Alex Cram was the headliner for Irmo, turning in a championship performance in the 100 backstroke and a third-place finish in the 200 IM.
Otherwise, Will Beckwith was the Blythewood standout with silver medal runs in the 100 betterfly and the 100 free and Andrew Merino was the top Ridge View finisher (3rd in the 100 backstroke).
