Five-time defending state champion Lexington tuned up for next week’s Class 4A state golf tournament by sweeping honors at the Lower State qualifying meet on Monday at Wescott Plantation in the Lowcountry.
The Wildcats took first place in team matters with a four-player score of 323 strokes, 11 better than runner-up Wando. Individually, Braiden Furtick shared medallist honors with Katherine Stewart of South Aiken. Both players carded rounds of 80.
All five of Lexington’s players cracked the Top 10, though Lauren Stephenson’s 83 was not included in the team score. Sydney Legacy, Rachel Moore and Hailey Cleary all backed up Furtick with steady play. In fact, all three shot 81s to finish in a tie for third place with Wando’s Ansley Vaughn.
The 36-hole Class 4A state tournament runs next Monday and Tuesday at Lexington Country Club.
