A.C. FLORA vs. BLUFFTON
A.C. Flora notes: Flora’s best football season in the modern era had another impressive entry last week when the Falcons improved to 10-1 with a wild 52-30 win over Wilson in Florence in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs ... It was Flora’s first playoff win since 2005 and turned out to be the fourth highest single-game scoring total in school history. To date, the Falcons have posted 392 points – a single-season school record Edward Kirkland ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns, Sam Caldera hauled in two scoring passes from Stephen Cagle, Travis Moreland was 7-for-7 in PAT kick and booted a 24-yard field goal, Travis Watson returned an interception 55 yards for a score and Schroder Carlton had a 53-yard kickoff return TD Kirkland is closing in on 1,000 yards rushing. He currently stands at 981 yards on 119 carries. The Falcons are averaging 247.9 yards rushing per game.
Bluffton notes: The Bobcats (10-1) are fresh from a 24-21 win over Lakewood – the first postseason success in the program’s seven-year history Bluffton’s turnaround season has come in Ken Cribb’s first year in command. Cribb had previous coaching stints at Georgetown, South Florence and Stall The Bobcats managed just 219 yards against Lakewood, and needed a late defensive stand to survive Like Flora, Bluffton relies on the ground game. The Bobcats averaged 266.5 rushing yards per game during the regular season.
Playoff history: Flora’s playoff win over Wilson was only the third in 10 tries since the Flacons first make the state cut in the modern era in 1982 ... Bluffton is 1-2 in postseason outings since the school opened in 2004.
