Spring Valley advanced to the semifinals of the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational girls basketball tournament by handing unbeaten Stephenson (GA) its first loss of the season on Tuesday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The Vikings (11-0) raced to a 33-12 lead by halftime and cruised to a 54-36 quarterfinal triumph. Spring Valley’s next undefeated foe is Wesleyan (GA) tonight at 8:30 a.m. with a spot on Tursday’s championship game on the line. Wesleyan improved to 10-0 by downing host Myrtle Beach 75-58 in Tuesday’s final game.
Xylina McDaniel and Asia Dozier shared scoring honors for SV with 20 points apiece. McDaniel also had 11 rebounds and six steals, while Dozier was credited with seven rebounds and four steals.
Shaquita Walker, Briana Robinson and Savonia Bryan also made key contributions to the winning effort. Walker scored just four points but had an outstanding floor game with nine assists and five steals. Robinson scored eight points and had three steals. Bryan did not score but hauled down eight rebounds and had two steals.
