Isaiah Austin posted the first triple double in the history of the Chick-fil-A Classic on Wednesday while helping Grace Prep Academy hand Lower Richland a 76-60 defeat.
Austin, the Lions senior center who is committed to Baylor, scored 15 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked a tournament record 11 shots. Point guard Jamal Branch, who has committed to Texas A&M, set the pace for the Grace Prep Academy (11-3) with 25 on 8-for-11 shooting from the field and 8-for-9 marksmanship from the free-throw line. Branch also rang up seven rebounds and seven assists.
The Lions from Arlington, Tex. Also received double-digit scoring from Jelon Hornbeak (15 points) and Emmanuel Mudiay (10).
Dominique Miller led Lower Richland (3-6) with 18 points, Eric Eavers scored 11 and Kenneth McFadden added 10 off the bench.
The Diamond Hornets shot just 31% from the field and were an unsightly 1-for-14 from 3-point range.
LR will gtry to salvage at least one win at the tournament on Wednesday against reigning Class 3A state champion Daniel at 9 a.m. Daniel is also 0-2 in tournament play.
