Spring Valley tuned up for Tuesday’s Region 4-4A showdown with Dutch Fork by thumped Ridge View 71-42 On Friday.
The Vikings (15-0, 3-0) host Dutch Fork on Tuesday in a game that has been highly anticipated for the past few weeks. DF entered Saturday’s non-region game at Laurens with a 12-0 overall record and a 3-0 region mark.
Spring Valley jumped out to an 18-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, upped to edge to 32-20 by halftime and turned it into a rout with a 25-11 burst in the third quarter.
Xylina McDaniel turned in her second double-double in as many days. The junior center posted 29 points and 10 rebounds vs. the Blazers after ringing up 27 points and 11 boards in a 68-23 non-region win over Aiken on Thursday.
Otherwise, Briana Robinson and Asia Dozier had nice numbers. Robinson finished with 13 points, seven assists, four rebounds and four steals, while Dozier tallied 12 points to go along with eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Alexus Jackson was the lone Blazer to hit double-digits with 10 points. Ridge View noew stands at 8-3 overall, 2-2 in region matters.
In other 4-4A outings on Friday, Blythewood beat Richland Northeast 38-27 and Irmo topped Lugoff-Elgin 58-41.
Blythewood improved to 2-1 in region matters with its win at RNE as Kierra Brown led the way with 11 points. Sherees Rose tallied a game high 14 points for the slumping Cavaliers (5-11, 0-3) who have lost nine of their last 10 games after getting off to a 4-2 start.
Irmo (7-6, 1-3) finally got into the W column in the region standings with its best offensive showing since the first game of the back in November. The Yellow Jackets averaged just 24 points a game in its three region setbacks prior to Friday point explosion. Bria Harper (13 points), Ke’asia Jackson (12) and Jessica Gathers (11) were the forefront.
Aneka Dixon and Caressa Samuel scored 18 and 14 points, respectively, for L-E, which dropped to 4-8, 1-3. The Demons have lost seven in a row since making their official Class 4A debut with a 56-53 region win over RNE on Dec. 14.
In addition to the Spring Valley-Dutch Fork confrontation, Tuesday’s region slate includes Blythewood at Lugoff-Elgin and Richland NE at Irmo.
Lexington and White Knoll both fell in their respective Region 5-4A openers on Friday.
Lexington (4-3, 0-1) fell 44-37 at North Augusta. Laura Beth Neal led the Wildcats with 11 points. White Knoll suffered a 36-18 loss at home to Aiken.
On Tuesday, Lexington hosts South Aiken, while WK travels to face North Augusta.
