Eau Claire stayed put atop the Region 3-2A boys basketball standings by handing Columbia its first conference setback of the season, 65-48.
The Shamrocks (11-3, 3-0) sped to a 16-11 lead by the end of the quarter and increased the advantage to 35-23 by halftime. After the Capitals showed some life in the third quarter, EC put it away with a 17-9 surge over the final eight minutes.
Marquise Lykes had the hot hand for the Shamocks, depositing a game high 24 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field, 7-for-9 marksmanship at the line. Lykes had solid backing from David Burgess, Adolph Caldwell and Dontell Riley. Burgess scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Cardwell had 10 points and five boards. Riley tallied eight points and led EC in rebounds with nine.
Casey Gladney led Columbia with 17 points and Justin Metze chipped in 15.
Keenan (15-3, 3-1) stayed on EC’s trail by pounding Batesburg-Leesville 75-43 on the road. Eric Hopkins led the Raiders scoring parade with 17 points, followed by Eric Washington (15), Erick Tisdale (12) and Trey Stroman (10).
Elsewhere, Strom Thurmond picked up its first region win in four tries on Tuesday, whipping host Gilbert 59-20.
