Lexington and White Knoll tuned up for their first confrontation with Region 5-4A boys basketball wins on Tuesday. The highly anticipated clash of neighboring rivals takes place Friday at Whiter Knoll.
The Wildcats and Timberwolves are part of a four-way tie for the top spot in the region standings. Aiken and North Augusta are the other clubs cued up at the head of the line.
Lexington (14-5, 2-1) defeated host Orangeburg-Wilkinson 68-53 on Tuesday. The Wildcats pulled away in the fourth-quarter with a 17-10 move featuring a 10-for-13 showing at the free throw line. Shaq Roland paced Lexington with 20 points, and had solid backing from Nygel Gates (16 points) and Joby Glymph (14).
White Knoll (14-3, 2-1) scored a 63-51 home win against South Aiken, despite 32 points by SA’s Jordan Dingle. Balance was the key with the T-wolves. Keith Jumper was the nominal WK headliner with 14 points, followed by Xen Singleton (13), Julian Johnson (13) and Quinton Creed (10).
In girls play, Lexington (6-4, 1-2) picked up its first conference win with a 55-34 win at O-W. Laura Beth Neal paced the Wildcats with 17 points, Janai Pinckney added 14 and Erin Munn chipped in with 12.
