Spring Valley and Blythewood joined Irmo in the Region 4-4A boys basketball winner’s circle on Tuesday.
While Irmo gained a one-half game lead at the top of the standings over idle Richland Northeast thanks to a victory over Ridge View, Spring Valley scored a 65-49 win against Lugoff-Elgin and Blythewood turned away Dutch Fork, 57-51.
Jonathon Garrett out-gunned Lugoff-Elgn’s Jo Jo Pelligrino, scoring a game high 21 points in the win that upped Spring Valley’s record to 9-8 overall, 4-2 in the region and allowed the Vikings to slip into third place. Pelligrino, who erupted with 40 points last week vs. Ridge View, finished with 14 this time around. Kristófer Acox and Devante Brooks backed Garrett with 14 and 13 points, respectively. The Demons (0-6) are still looking for their first-ever region win at the Class 4A level.
Blythewood (7-9, 2-3) ended a six-game losing streak with an upset of Spring Valley last week, and the trend continued vs. Dutch Fork. Jerry Bowers (12 points) and Julius Davis (11) led the balanced Bengals effort. Ike Harris scored a game high 20 points for the Silver Foxes (5-13, 2-4).
