Lower Richland, Dreher and Airport – the top three teams in the Region 5-3A girls basketball standings – went through Friday’s round of conference games without a hitch.
Lower Richland (13-3, 6-0) kept its first-place standing in tact with a 64-29 romp over Chapin. In all, 11 Diamond Hornets had entries in the box score with freshman Breshay Johnson (13 points) and sophomore Dayshonshe Mitchell (10) lead the way. LR is on a roll of late, winning five in a row and 10 of 11 since Dec. 10. Savannah Frick scored 14 points for Chapin, which slipped under the .500 mark overall (7-8) for the first time since November.
Elsewhere, Dreher toppled Brookland-Cayce to stay one game off the LR pace. The Blue Devils have won four straight region outings since losing to the Diamond Hornets on Jan. 4.
Airport (14-2, 5-2) rebound from Tuesday disappointing showing in a loss at Lower Richland with a 59-52 victory against A.C. Flora (12-6, 3-3). Taylor Vinson set the tone with a 17-point effort and she received 11-point support from Maya McCray, Shardane Harris and Jessica Ellison.

Camden fell to 2-9 overall after suffering a 61-47 Region 6-3A setback at home to Marlboro County. Tyechia Reed’s 20 point was the highlight for the host Bulldogs.
