Lower Richland closed out the Region 5-3A campaign on Thursday with a road sweep at Airport.
The LR boys thumped the Eagles 64-44 to officially nail down the region championship. The Diamond Hornets (15-10, 10-2) enter the Class 3A state playoffs as a No. 1 and will play at home in the first round on Tuesday.
Chris King’s 21 points highlighted the title-clinching performance, and Erick Eaves offered 11 in support. Ismail Lee scored 18 and Ricardo Martin added 16 for the Eagles. Airport (8-13, 5-7) opens the playoffs on the road as the No. 4 seed.
The LR girls (20-3) closed the region campaign with a perfect 12-0 grade, handing Airport a 66-50 defeat. It was a costly loss for the Eagles, who finished in a tie for second place for Dreher and ended up as the No. 3 seed behind the Diamond Hornets and Blue Devils through the tie-breaking process.
Freshman Breshay Johnson led Lower Richland with 21 points and Chelsea Dennis chipped in 12. Taylor Vinson had 26 points for Airport.
