Zack Warner and Patrick Burt belted solo home runs to lift Brookland-Cayce to a win over Belton-Honea Path on Friday morning at the International Paper Classic baseball tournament at Mike Johnson Park in Georgetown.
The game was originally scheduled to be the last game played on Thursday, but a rain delay pushed the contest to 8:30 a.m. this morning. Both teams will play another game later today.
Warner’s leadoff homer in the bottom of the eighth was the decisive blow, while Burt’s one-out solo shot in the fifth wiped out a 1-0 BHP lead and sent the game into extra innings. BHP opened the scoring with an unearned run in the third.
Pitching dominated. B-C senior Chase Shelton went the distance, allowing five hits and no earned runs while striking out nine and issuing zero free passes. Two BHP hurlers combined on a five-hitter, as well, but two of the safeties left the yard.
