Hammond hosts first Equestrian state meet

Hammond will serve as the host school for a historic event on Saturday – the first-ever Equestrian state championship meet at Red Gate Farm in Hopkins.

The event is not only unique to South Carolina, but it is the first high school championship riding competition staged in the United States, said International Equestrian Association president Roxane Lawrence.

Hammond, Wilson Hall, Pinewood Prep and Ashley Hall are the four schools that field co-ed teams in South Carolina. Riders compete in two styles – Hunt Seat and Western.

The competition begins at 1 p.m.
