In all, 15 Midlands baseball and softball teams have reached the Elite Eight phase of the state playoffs in three difference classifications.
But the vast majority of area teams still active face long odds in the quest to extend their seasons past Wednesday’s district championship round. The Dutch Fork, Spring Valley and Gilbert softball teams and the Blythewood, A.C. Flora and Brookland-Cayce baseball teams are all well rested and needed just one win to move on to the next level of postseason competition. The rest of the Midlands contingent faces the daunting task of having to win two games on the road to stave off elimination.
All games start at 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted. If necessary, second games will follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
