Lower Richland eliminated Dreher as a contender for the Region 5-3A boys basketball championship on Friday night with a 74-46 rout of the Blue Devils at the Diamond Mine.
LR (14-6, 9-0) can clinch its second straight outright 5-3A title next Friday with a win over A.C. Flora. The Diamond Hornets have won 16 straight region games. Dreher (11-10, 5-3) dropped down to third place.
Eric Eaves and Edward Stephens shared scoring honors for the Diamond Hornets with 14 points apiece, and Vincent Hicklin chipped in 11. Tevin Mack and Kendall Taylor scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Blue Devils.
Airport managed its first region sweep since Jan. 3 against Brookland-Cayce, downing the cross-town rival Bearcats twice again. Vi Muller’s 12 points helped the Eagles (8-12, 3-6) break a six-game losing streak with a 39-22 win. In the nightcap, Quan Bovain (14 points), Manny Polston (14) and Raymond Kingston (12) paced the Eagles (11-9, 5-4). Terry Jones scored a game-high 16 points for the Bearcats (5-16, 1-8).
Chapin came away with a split at Midland Valley. The Eagle girls (10-9, 5-4) defeated the Mustangs 47-29 with Shaleighya Sulton’s 17 points leading the way. The slumping Eagle boys (5-12, 0-9) dropped their eighth in a row, 47-31.
In Region 6-3A play, Camden managed a split with visiting Hartsville. The Bulldogs girls (8-7, 2-5) avenged a first-half loss to the Red Foxes with a 48-41 win in the rematch. Sharneece Gary led the way with 12 points with Quasha Jefferson and Jazzmine Devlin in support roles with nine points apiece. The Camden b0ys (7-8, 2-5) faltered for the second time against Hartsville, this time by a 66-47 count.
