The bumpier the better as far as Dale Earnhardt Jr. is concerned.
Earnhardt won the pole for Saturday night's Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway after posting a track-record lap speed Friday at 183.636 mph.
"We like the bumps (on the track); at least in the corners anyways," Earnhardt said of his lap. "This Chevrolet had good grip and good speed and we had a cool race track. We had a lot of shade there for a couple of guys in front of us."
Carl Edwards qualfied second, Sprint Cup series points leader Jimmie Johnson was third, Kyle Busch was fourth and Marcos Ambrose was fifth.
