Edition (Web Version) Frequently Asked Questions

What is Edition?

Edition is a new digital destination for the latest news, features, and insights. It is built for your screen — not for print — but still has the ease of use of the printed edition. Our newsroom builds each issue to bring you the latest local, national, and world news, plus sports and all your favorite sections.

Is the new Edition the same as the website?

No. Edition, like the printed newspaper, is intended to be a complete report of the day’s news compiled by our editors overnight. It is intended to give you all the stories you need, but not endless information. Read the Edition for your curated view; visit our website for the latest updates.

What is the optimal way to read Edition?

We recommend viewing Edition on a tablet in portrait mode for the best reading experience.

How do I flip through Edition?

On a section page, click anywhere on the story to view the full story page. If the story continues to the next page, use the side arrow on the right to read more. You can continue to read more sections and stories by using the arrow buttons fixed on the left and right sides of the window. The right arrow will advance through sections and stories, while the left arrow will take you back—similar to flipping through a newspaper.

To navigate to a specific section, select Contents at the bottom left of the front page. Once selected, a tabbed menu will appear, which you can horizontally scroll through to find the section or story you want to read.

What are section fronts?

The fronts (e.g., Local, Nation, World, Living) collect and arrange the most important stories from each section, allowing you to browse the stories you want to read at a glance.

How do I visit a specific section of the Edition?

You can click on the Contents icon at the bottom left of the screen to scroll through the different sections horizontally.

Go to the bottom right of the page, press on the app settings icon, then click on Text Size, and then choose the text size you want. The text will stay throughout all the pages. Alternatively, you can pinch and zoom on devices that support gestures.

When you click on the story, you will now be taken directly to the full story.

Mobile App Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find the obituaries?

Obituaries are available via our website or in Edition.

I’ve already purchased a subscription and was previously signed in to the app before the recent update. Why do I need to sign in again?

Our app has been rebuilt on a new platform that unfortunately requires that subscribers log in again to their account. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I previously purchased an in-app subscription but I still can’t get access to content. What should I do?

If your subscription was originally purchased from within the mobile app — and is still active — but you aren’t getting full access to content, please try restoring your subscription. To restore, tap the Settings button on the bottom right corner of the app. Once on the Settings screen, tap the “My Account” tab. Next, tap the “Restore In App Purchases” button. The app will then sync with the mobile app store to validate your subscription, then restore your access.

Where is the section navigation menu/table of contents in the Live area of the app? How do I jump to another section?

We’ve implemented a horizontally scrolling navigation bar to improve how readers explore sections within the app. This component, positioned near the top of the screen, offers improved visibility and usability as you can quickly browse sections just by swiping.

Can I customize — add, remove, rearrange — the sections that appear in the Live area of the app?

Yes. Tap the button with the three horizontal bars and a plus sign located on the top right hand corner of the screen to open the My Topics screen. You’ll notice the screen contains three tabs:

Why don’t I see Top Stories on the My Topics screen? Is that a bug?

No, it’s intentional. Top Stories is the only section you can’t unfollow or change its position. This section offers a curated list of the most important stories of the moment as selected by our editorial team. By placing Top Stories as the lead spot, we fulfill our mission to highlight impactful local news for our audience, ensuring that mobile readers are on top of breaking developments as they happen.

How do I turn push notifications on or off?

On iOS devices, open the Settings app from your device’s home screen. Next, find and tap the Notifications button. Then, scroll to find this app on the list and tap its label to open the notification options screen. Finally, tap the Allow Notifications toggle to turn push alerts either on or off.

On Android devices, open the Settings app on your device. Next, find and tap the button labelled “Notifications,” “Apps & notifications,” “Applications,” or “Applications Manager.” (Terms and steps may vary depending on your device). Then, scroll to find this app on the list and follow the screen prompts to turn notifications on or off.

Can I swipe between articles?

Yes. Once you have opened a story in the app, you can swipe left or right to read the previous or next article.

How do I adjust the text size on stories?

You can easily adjust the text size on a Live app story or Edition article by tapping the Text Size button located in the top right corner of the screen.

On the window that appears, move the slider either right or left to increase or decrease the text scale to your liking. Tap the Save button to confirm your selection.

How do I remove articles, pages or issues from the My Content section?

To remove items saved to the My Content section, tap the bookmark icon at the bottom of each item.

Once tapped, a message bar will appear at the bottom of your screen confirming that the item will be removed from the section (don’t worry — the bar also gives you the option to cancel deletion). After 3 seconds, the message bar will disappear after which the item will be removed.

How do I make the eEdition (or the live Feed) the first thing I see when I open the mobile app?

During first launch, readers are given the option of selecting either Edition or the live Feed as the initial view of the app. Should you change your mind, tap the app's Settings button then on the menu screen, tap the “Reading Preference” label. From there, you may change your choice from live Feed to Edition or vice versa.

How do I download an issue of Edition in the mobile app to read later or when I’m offline?

Tap the Editions button in the bar at the bottom of the app. This will bring you to the portal screen. On the lower right side of each Edition card, there will be a download icon. Tap the icon to download the issue to your device. You will know the download is complete when the download icon on the card changes to a trash can icon. (Tapping the trash can icon deletes that issue from your device.)

Your selection will be saved in the My Content section of the app, under the Editions tab.
