2 fatalities in SC train crash were Amtrak workers, governor says

The two people killed in Sunday’s train collision in Cayce were Amtrak personnel, S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster said.

There were 116 people taken to local hospitals for treatment, McMaster said.

“Some have very minor injuries, some are a little more serious,” he said.

The Amtrak train was heading south, McMaster said, and collided with a CSX freight train that was parked on the track.

The engine car of the Amtrak train was “barely recognizable,” McMaster said.
