There’s a new Starbucks coming to Lexington County.

The coffee giant confirmed to The State that a new store is coming to Longs Pond Road at Interstate 20. That’s just off Exit 51 along I-20, near a Love’s gas station and an Arby’s restaurant.

A Starbucks spokesperson said Thursday that the company which has more than 15,000 stores in the U.S. is “always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers.” The spot along Longs Pond Road at I-20 is expected to open in spring 2022 and will employ up to 15 people. The spokesperson said the new location will feature a drive-thru and a patio.

There are more than 30 Starbucks locations in Richland and Lexington counties, according to a store locator tool on the company’s website.

While Starbucks has steadily increased its footprint in the Columbia and Lexington area in recent years, the news of a new unit also comes on the heels of the closing of a Starbucks in a high-profile location. The company confirmed earlier this week the location on Gervais Street in the Vista was closed.

There also has been recent news that a competing coffee franchise plans to make a splash in the Midlands, as businessman and Richland County Councilman Joe Walker and business partner Andrew Reed plan to bring 25 Scooter’s coffee spots to South Carolina, including several in the Columbia area.
