Head-on collision near Lexington interstate leaves one passenger dead
A Columbia woman was killed Thursday while in the passenger seat of a vehicle involved in a crash, Lexington officials say.
The two-vehicle collision happened at around 7:30 a.m. on the 900 block of South Lake Drive in Lexington, said Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green.
A Toyota Scion crossed multiple lanes of traffic upon exiting Interstate 20 Westbound by way of Exit 55 (Lexington). An Acura traveling westbound on South Lake Drive struck the Toyota head-on, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 22-year-old Trinity Dasani Jones. The victim was not wearing a seat belt, Fisher said.
Jones was transported to Lexington Medical Center where she was pronounced dead due to her injuries, Green said.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lexington Police Department and Lexington County Coroner’s Office are still investigating the incident.
Through June 1, at least 15 people have died in Lexington County crashes in 2025, according to state Department of Public Safety data. There were 26 deaths in the county in 2024, the department reported.
