A Target is on track to open this summer in Seneca, the Oconee Economic Alliance announced.

“This is one of the few non-manufacturing projects that the Oconee Economic Alliance has worked on,” the organization said. “We are excited to see the development progressing.”

It is part of the $150 million Thornwell Village Retail Center at 1810 Sandifer Boulevard off of Highway 123, close to Home Depot. Some 300 jobs are expected to be created.

The alliance did not announce what other stores were going into the development.

But many people on their Facebook post had their opinions.

How about a Chicken Salad Chick? Or Trader Joes. One person said they wanted an Academy Sports instead of the Target. TJ Maxx, Home Goods. Texas Roadhouse.

The list went on and on with others saying no. Stop. Too much.

“I moved away from this, just in time for it to reappear on our doorstep. I will drive for shopping, leave the trees alone,” one woman said.

“I’d rather have the trees,” one person said.

Another said, “Okay Oconee I see you becoming an actual county now with actual cities. Only took 15 more years than everyone else but better late than never.”

One man said he and his wife would be there every day.

“I can’t wait,” another said.

Target is expanding across the country with some 300 planned over the next 10 years.

“There’s a Target store within 10 miles of most doorsteps in America — and we’re not done yet!” the company said on its website.
