3 SC teens killed, another teen charged with murder in Rock Hill shootout, officials say

A South Carolina teen is charged with two counts of murder after a shootout in Rock Hill Tuesday night that left three other York County teens dead, officials said.

Ahmik Coleman, 17, is charged as an adult with two counts of murder, according to a news release from the Rock Hill Police Department. He was wounded in the shootout between teens in a parked car and another group of teens in the road.

He is accused of killing two teens who were already wounded in the shootout, police said.

The shootings happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday on Gist Road, a residential street south of the intersection of South Cherry Road and West Main Street, Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis said in the release.

Late Wednesday, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast identified the victims who died.

OMarian Small, 16, of Lake Wylie was found dead in a vehicle at the scene, Gast said in a news release.

Kam’ran Brevard, 16, of Rock Hill was found deceased in the street, Gast said.

Evanta Hart, 17, of Rock Hill, was identified as the victim found in the street who later died at Piedmont Medical Center hospital, Gast said.

Shootout in the road: Police

In the news release, police said three teens — Coleman, Small and an unidentified male — were sitting in a parked vehicle on Gist Road when two other teen males — Brevard and Hart — approached the car and fired shots at the car.

Small, in the driver seat, was killed, police said.

Coleman, in the front passenger seat, was wounded in the hand and fired back at the two teens in the street, the police statement said. Both Brevard and Hart were wounded by Coleman returning fire, police said in the statement.

A third teen in the back seat of the car ran from the shooting scene, police said.

Coleman fled the scene but returned and fired again, killing Brevard and Hart, who were lying injured in the street, police said.

“Detectives were able to establish this chain of events and issued two murder warrants for Coleman,” the police statement said.

Coleman was served the two warrants for murder and is set to appear in Rock Hill Municipal Court Thursday, according to police and court records.

A conviction for murder carries 30 years to life in prison under South Carolina law.

Persons involved known to each other: Police

The relationship among the teens involved has not been released, but police said they knew each other.

“Based on the findings so far, this incident appears to be isolated,” an earlier police statement said.

A large police presence remained in the area Wednesday, and police were seen canvassing the area during the day.
