Lockdown at Midlands charter school after report of intruder on campus

Lexington Police Department

Lexington’s American Leadership Academy was on lockdown Friday morning after a report of an intruder on campus.

Lexington police responded to the charter school campus Friday morning, police said in a post on Facebook addressing the large police presence in the area.

A spokesperson for Charter One, which manages the Lexington-based charter, told The State a brief power disruption led to a false alarm. “We thank and commend police officers for their quick response and confirmation that there was no threat to the campus,” said PR director Melody Hudson.

Police also said the report appeared to be a false alarm, but they still took precautions, placing both the school’s K-5 and 6-12 buildings on lockdown and conducting a room-by-room search to insure no unauthorized person was inside.

“Ensuring student and staff safety is our priority,” the police said.

Students at the charter school just returned to class for fall semester this week.
