Baby crawling out of second-story window is rescued by passerby, NY cops say
A man and woman were arrested when police in New York responded to a report that a 10-month-old baby had wandered out an open second-story window.
A 38-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were arrested on multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree reckless endangerment, the Village of Bath Police Department said in a news release shared to Facebook.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, June 15, officers responded to a call at a Bath apartment about a child who “had crawled out a second-story window,” police said.
Through an investigation, police said they learned children were unsupervised inside the home when the baby “crawled out an open window on the second story and nearly onto the roof.”
At the time, both adults were inside the home, according to police.
A passerby noticed the baby, ran to the home and climbed on the roof, “saving the baby from falling,” police said.
The man and woman were arrested following a “thorough investigation,” according to police, who did not disclose if either is related to the child.
Both of them are being held without bail, police said.
A third party is caring for the children who were inside the home, police said.
Bath is about an 80-mile drive south from Rochester.
