A visit to Walmart turned surreal when a man closed in on a girl with the strange intent of licking her shoe, according to investigators in southern Louisiana.

It happened Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Slidell, and ended with the accused licker in jail, police said in a news release.

“Today at Walmart, a man approached a girl sitting in a chair. He then proceeded to lift up her leg and licked the bottom of her shoe. Yes. You read that right ... licked the bottom of her shoe,” Slidell police said.

The man quickly fled the store, but was captured by police.

When questioned, the man said “he thought it would be a funny joke,” officials said.

“Needless to say, the girl did not find it funny,” police said. “He was placed under arrest and charged with simple battery.”

Simple battery carries a fine of up to $1,000 and as much as six months in jail, records show.

The suspect’s name was not released “due to matters still under investigation,” police said.

Slidell is about a 30-mile drive northeast from New Orleans.
